Statistics from Chinanews.com showed that currently China has approximately 16 million new born babies every year. With the second child policy being carried out, baby products become popular. While most mothers would like to buy the best products for their babies, they only pay attention to the brands and price and ignore the labels which show the textures and quality level of the clothes.
A market survey by Chinanews.com showed that customers of children’s products in China are not aware of the importance of the national standards and requirements. 46% of customers do not now the specific requirements for children clothes and 88% of people ignore the potential danger of the strings on the clothes.
In 2015, China has published the first safety standards and requirements for children clothes, which was officially carried out on July 1, 2016. The requirements regulate that children’s clothes are divided into two kinds, clothes for babies who are under the age of 3 and clothes for children between 3 years old and 14 years old.
The requirements said that baby clothes should meet the national standard A and children’s clothes should meet the national standard B, both should be marked on the labels of the clothes.
However, the products in the market failed to show the standards.
Reporters of Chinanews.com found that most baby and children’s clothes are only marked that the products were produced under the new regulation, but without specific level.
Guo Wensong, director of Chinatesta Textile Testing & Certification Services said that by July 1, 2018, the products in the market will be under stricter supervision to meet the national standard.
