C919, the first domestic produced large passenger plane of China, had its maiden show on Friday. The flight marks that the manufacturer, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), becomes a member in the large passenger aircraft industry as Airbus and Boeing.
In 2007, the State Council approved the plan to develop a Chinese-built large passenger plane. Since then, the government has been investing constantly and enormously in the project.
C919 has two engines for medium-haul flights and it can compete with the Airbus 320 and the Boeing 737. The basic economic level flight of C919 accommodates 168 passengers, mixed seats flights have 158 seats and dense level flights have 174 seats.
COMAC has received 570 orders from 23 clients for the C919, including large domestic carriers such as Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Sichuan Airlines.
According to COMAC, the flight was designed based on the regulation of Civil Aviation Administration of China. The fuel consumption is less than the current civil flight and there are more space between seats. The new engines reduce noise and are environmental friendly.
The research report provided by COMAC showed that a civil flight consists of 3 to 5 million parts, which are produced by thousands of suppliers. Thus, the development of the new civil flight impetuses industrial productions including new materials, modern manufacture, advanced power systems, electronic information engineering, automatic control system and computer science. The production of the new flight also creates more jobs for the industry.
