On February 25, No.44 buses were replaced by new energy double-decker buses. Gradually, Beijing will replace the current public transport with new energy buses. Over 50 percent new energy buses have lower deck to provide easier access for disabled people. All buses will be equipped with air conditioning system.
As the first new energy bus in Beijing, No.44 is one of the busiest bus lines. Beijing Public Transport introduced that compared with the traditional buses, new energy buses are environmental friendlier, quieter and have bigger capacity.
The double-decker buses are the first new energy public transport in Beijing. Each bus has 70 seats and can accommodate 100 passengers. According to Beijing Public Transport, the city will renew all public transport with new energy buses during the 13th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development, known as the 13th Five-Year Plan, in order to improve the environment.
On March 3, Bus Rapid Transit line 2 (BRT 2) buses were also replaced by new energy buses.
By the end of 2020, Beijing will have more than 2,000 charging stations for over 11,000 new energy vehicles, which takes up 50 percent of the total number of vehicles. Gasoline vehicles, especially public transport, will use new energy soon.
